Pantone Color of the year 2015 - Marsala

Pantone last week chose the color for the year 2015 to be Marsala (Pantone 18-438).
How does one describe Marsala? In its press release last week, Pantone described Marsala as a "naturally robust and earthy wine red." Stretching the definition a bit further they describe Marsala as the color of fine chocolates, exotic spices, and the fragrant loam of the fertile Earth.

As a designer I am not entirely convinced by the choice of Marsala especially when we are trying to de-clutter, think clean, simplistic and want less noise. Here is a color that is robust and demands attention and space. It is hard to ignore and to like. Its a bit like terracotta but doesn't really feel earthy. Its a bit like red wine but not that luxurious or rich. Its a bit like a spice but not that exotic.
Still have to come across a product that wows me in the color Marsala! We wait and watch..
